Many parts of the United States our experience harsh winters. But naturally, people still need to get out and about for work, school and other responsibilities.
This means having the appropriate clothing and outerwear in your closet. The following eight items are absolutely necessary to have if you live in an area where winters tend to be cold and harsh.
1. A Down Coat
Down feathers are the best filling for a warm winter coat. The best down winter coat will be long and go past your knees. It will also have a hood and a warm fleece or wool lining.
2. A Hat
There are a number of items that can keep your ears and head warm when it’s cold outside. But in the end, a hat is always better than a headband, earmuffs or anything else. That’s because it can cover your entire head and keep essential heat inside your body.
3. Mittens
The best thing to cover your hands with are mittens because they enable your four fingers to be together and keep each other warm. Choose a filling like down, or look for wool mittens.
4. Gloves With Sensitive Touch for Touch Phones
With the prevalence of smart phones and our reliance on them, it’s important to be able to use these phones at any time. In addition to having warm mittens for the winter, make sure that you have a pair of gloves with sensitive touch on them for touch screens so that you can use your smart phone while keeping your gloves on.
5. A Scarf
A scarf is essential for keeping your neck and face warm. It can also be worn over your ears if you forget a hat.
6. Long Underwear
If you plan on being outside for a long time in the winter, you’ll want to line your pants and top with long underwear. If you don’t have long underwear, make sure that you have a cotton long-sleeved shirt and a pair of leggings to wear underneath your outer clothing.
7. Long Wool Socks
Keeping your toes and feet warm is another priority in the winter. Purchase a pair of long wool socks to wear under your winter boots.
8. Winter Boots
Finally, make sure that you have a sturdy pair of boots to wear. These shouldn’t necessarily be fashionable, but they should be useful. This means making sure that they are waterproof and have good tracking on the bottoms.
If you live in an area of the nation where winters hit hard, make sure that you have these eight important winter staples in your closet as fall rolls around that you can be prepared for the cold weather ahead.
